Sandoval firefighters responded to a residential structure fire just before 10 a.m. Thursday in the 200 block of South Mulberry.

Two engines from Sandoval, an ambulance, and a rescue truck all responded. Odin Fire Protection District was called for mutual aid with manpower and an engine.

The first engine on scene at 9:54 a.m. found smoke coming from the front of the home. Firefighters quickly made entry into the home and had the fire extinguished within a few minutes. They remained on scene for a little over an hour.

Smoke detectors alerted a resident in the home and they were able to safely exit the house and call 911.

Fire officials say that due to the residents closing all interior doors before leaving the home only one room received fire damage.

They say it was a good example of how keeping interior doors closed when you leave home and having working smoke detectors saves lives and property.
