IL State Police Launch Silver Search; A Campaign Designed to Help find Missing Alzheimer’s Patients

The Illinois state police are launching a new awareness campaign about its Silver Search program for Alzheimer’s patients.

Silver search is an alert system for people with Alzheimer’s or dementia that have gone missing, much like an amber alert for kids. The ISP will use several resources to spread the word if an Alzheimer’s patient is missing says ISP’s Craig Burge.

It’s estimated that 60 percent of those with Alzheimer’s will wander off at some point after their diagnosis.

Burge says more than 220,000 Illinoisans are currently living with Alzheimer’s. Alerts will also be displayed on Illinois lottery terminals and be broadcast on radio and t-v. Acting Director Greg Smith.
