A plea offer by a 53-year-old Olney man accused of raping and murdering an 8-year-old girl last year was rejected by the state Thursday afternoon.

Glenn R. Ramey faces charges of first-degree murder and predatory criminal sexual assault. He is accused in the Nov. 23, 2016 slaying of Sabrina Stauffenberg.

At Ramey’s request, the attorneys involved in the case met Thursday to discuss a possible plea agreement.

However, no agreement was reached but Ramey’s attorney indicated his client may ask for another plea discussion at a later date.

Moving the case forward, the court set a pre-trial conference for November 9 and asked the clerk to confirm an Effingham County courtroom would be available for a jury trial starting December 4.

A judge had earlier ruled that both Ramey’s jury trial in the slaying and his fitness trial would be moved out of Richland County to Effingham County.

An Effingham County jury last month found Ramey mentally fit to stand trial.
