It would no longer cost you anything to freeze your credit under legislation passed by the Illinois house Thursday.
The bill is in response to the massive Equifax data breach that affected more than five point six million Illinoisans. The best way to protect yourself is to initiate a credit freeze but that can cost up to 10 dollars for each credit agency. This measure from Representative Greg Harris of Chicago prohibits those charges.
The legislation is backed by Representative Peter Breen.
The bill received unanimous support in the house.
