Theodore Alvin Schmitt, 79, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 2:14 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2017, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

He was born February 22, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Frank and Loretta (Grube) Schmitt.  On August 1, 1955, in Indiana, he married Norma Powell, and she survives in Mt. Vernon.

He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and worked as a salesman for RH Donnelly Corporation, and as a salesman for International Harvester.  He enjoyed reading, woodworking, motorcycling, and traveling.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family.

In addition to his wife, Norma Schmitt of Mt. Vernon, he is survived by two daughters, Debby Carter and husband Steve of Salem, and Tracy Dorris of Mt. Vernon;  nine grandchildren;  nineteen great-grandchildren;  five great-great-grandchildren;  one brother, Frank Schmitt of Florence, Kentucky;  two sisters, Mandy Eldridge of Florence, Kentucky, and Trish Martin and husband Paul of Burlington, Kentucky; and his faithful companion, Sugar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gregory Schmitt; one grandson, Joshua Hines;  one great-grandson, Brendan Dorris; and two sons-in-law, Dan Dorris, and Michael Hines.

Funeral services for Mr. Schmitt will be held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Jason Webb officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Thursday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the PHBC Josh Hines Scholarship Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association, and will be accepted at the service, or by mail to the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O.
