An early morning fire at a home on Salem’s southwest side was confined to the bedroom where it started.

Salem Fire Protection District officials say flames were showing when firefighters arrived at the scene in the 900 block Reel Street in Salem around 4 a.m..

The lone occupant of the home was reportedly in the bedroom when the fire broke out. He was able to get out on his own and call 911 for the fire department.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the bedroom of the home but there was smoke damage throughout.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Odin firefighters provided mutual aid.
