Willie Michael “Mike” Keller formerly of Bonnie, Illinois passed away on September 4th, 2017 while visiting his wife Dorothy’s family in the Netherlands.
Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years Dorothy (Vander Molen). He was the loving father to Joan (Don) Laurino, Jr., Harry Lucas Keller, Heather (Joseph) DiCicco, and Jessica (Matthew) Koschnitzky. Wonderful grandfather to Anna Koschnitzky. He was the brother to Don (Judy), brother in law to Gary (Lani) Vander Molen, John (Janice) Vander Molen, Bernie Vander Molen, Ena Vander Molen, Janny Nolan, Caroline (Scott) Toomey, Russ Shelhammer and the late Ann Shelhammer. He was uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Dial and Marguerite (Hayes) Keller.
Mike was born on March 7th, 1940, in East Alton, Illinois and grew up in Bonnie, Illinois. After graduating from Mt. Vernon Township High School, he moved north for employment at Johns Manville and then General Mills.
Mike served two years in the U.S. Army during the Panama Canal crisis. After leaving the service, he earned an Associate’s Degree from College of DuPage and a Business Degree from Northern Illinois University.
Mike was a long-time resident of West Chicago and Warrenville, Illinois. He was a City Carrier with the Geneva Post Office.
Mike and his family were members of Winfield Christian Reformed Church. Following his father’s lead, he regularly donated blood over much of his adult life. He enjoyed reading, traveling, watching the Green Bay Packers and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.
A ceremony will be held October 27th at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. A memorial open house in honor of Mike will be held on October 28th at Cantigny Education Center in Wheaton, Illinois.
