MT. VERNON — A meeting of the Mt. Vernon Township High School Board of Education’s Building Committee Thursday night saw seven bids opened regarding the demolition of the old campus.

The district hopes to demolish and abate asbestos for A thru F Buildings and M Building by June 1, 2018. These buildings include the old auditorium and two gymnasiums.

Bids ranged from just under $680,000 all the way up to $2.15 million. Early estimates had put the project in the neighborhood of $1.3 million.

The low bid came from Earth Services of Benton at $679,190. The highest bid was $2,155,000 from Shores Builders of Centralia. Bids were also received from: Rasmus Demolition Services of Chrisman, River City Construction of Benton, Glynn Demolition & Excavating, Inc. of Hennepin, Dore & Associates Contracting, Inc. of Bay City, Mich., and Premier Demolition, Inc. of St. Louis.

No votes were taken on the bids and no time frame was given on a decision.
