Cathy Taylor, age 60, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois went to be with our Lord at 9:32 PM September 17, 2017, due to a severe cardiac trauma. Cathy was born June 16, 1957 in Mt,Vernon, Illinois to Ray and Kathryn Severs.  She married Dean Taylor on June 11, 1973 in Shawneetown, Illinois and he survives.

Along with her husband Dean Taylor of Mt. Vernon, Cathy is survived by her sons: Shawn Taylor and wife Kelly, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Aaron Taylor of Carbondale, Illinois; the Lights of her Life, granddaughters Lily and Ruby Taylor; mother Kathryn (Warner) Severs of Mt. Vernon; sister Linda Severs-Shoots and husband Steve of  Salem, two brothers: Larry and his wife Karen of Opdyke and Richard and his wife Kay of Ellenton, Florida; along with three nieces and one nephew and many cousins.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Ray Severs, mother-in-law VernaDean Taylor and father-in-law, Warren Taylor.

Cathy was born to love and serve others.  From the early years of providing loving child care for working families, as a teacher’s aid at Head Start of Mt. Vernon, a representative of Kaiser & Blair, and as co-owner of Lang-Taylor Furniture where she helped families beautifully furnish their homes, Cathy provided what each circumstance needed to supply the needs of people. The numbers of lives she impacted, spiritually, professionally and personally, are more than can ever be measured.  Cathy served on The Healthy Women Advisory Council, SINA of Mt. Vernon, Baptist Children’s Home & Family Services Board of Trustees, and many individuals and families who needed.

Cathy was a follower of Jesus who lived and loved like Him.  She was described as “accessible and available,” always eager to help anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the visitation on Thursday evening, September 21, 5:00-8:00 PM, and the Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 22, both at Logan Street Baptist Church, 601 S. 21st Street, Mt. Vernon, Illinois.  To honor Cathy, in lieu of flowers, Dean is asking donations be made to the Lily and Ruby Educational Fund.  Gifts will be received at the Celebration of Life, any Community First Bank location, or mailed to Community First Bank, 117 N. 10th St., Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
