MARION COUNTY — A bona fide doubt has been raised as to the mental fitness of a 30-year-old Centralia man found with two hatchets on him when Centralia police responded to reports of him swinging a stick at people outside the Centralia Library.

Paxton Price remains in the Marion County Jail with bail set at $2,500 on a misdemeanor charge of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Price was reportedly found to have a hatched hanging from his belt when officers responded to a disturbance call at the library.

He then reportedly reached for another object that was also discovered to be a hatchet.

Police seized both hatchets and a drug pipe that was allegedly found on Price. He was initially arrested for alleged disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At this time the state is only pursuing the paraphernalia charge, as they attempt to determine if he’s fit to stand trial.

Price was convicted in 2012 of felony burglary and was sentenced to four years probation.

He was ordered at that time to take all his prescribed medications and complete any counseling recommended by probation services.
