McLEANSBORO — A McLeansboro man told the McLeansboro City Council Tuesday night that filling stations in town need “to be better corporate citizens” and listed comparison for the price of gas in surrounding communities.

Keith York asked the council during the public comments portion of the meeting to not permit additional liquor sales or gaming machines for them as they already made enough money from citizens and their higher gas prices were causing a loss of tax revenue for city street repairs as people by gas out of town.

City Clerk Fred Vallowe tells us the city’s current position is that there are no planned changes to the liquor ordinance which would allow new Sunday sales of liquor or pour licenses.
