MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon Township High School hopes additional state funding could yield the district an extra $567,000 with the new evidence-based formula.

During the MVTHS Board’s Finance Committee meeting on Monday, Dr. Nick Osborne gave an update on the new funding formula. The money is an estimate based on the current model, but isn’t able to be incorporated into the budget for fiscal year 2018. It will still take a few months for the Illinois State Board of Education to figure the new monies available to each district.

Osborne’s report also included projected increases for other area districts. He estimated Woodlawn Unit Schools could receive another $300,000 and Mt. Vernon District 80 could get another $378,000.

MVTHS Administration remains optimistic regarding the projected increases. The district also announced Monday that it would hold a policy committee meeting at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
