MARION COUNTY — A 19-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Thursday in Marion County Court to two-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after he pleaded guilty to the lesser felony charge against him.

Donovan Hamilton was accused of pushing his way passed a homeowner and into her Salem home in May as he was fleeing on foot from police.

Hamilton was charged with Class X felony home invasion and Class 4 criminal trespass to a residence.

In court Thursday he pleaded guilty to the trespass charge in exchange for the more serious home invasion charge being dismissed, as well as a misdemeanor charge of retail theft in a separate case.

Upon completion of his 2-year prison sentence, Hamilton will have to serve one year mandatory supervised release.
