MT. VERNON — A burning topic amongst the citizens of Mt. Vernon will be addressed at tonight’s city council meeting at the Rolland W. Lewis Building.

The Mt. Vernon Council will consider allowing leaf burning within the city limits for five weeks out of the year. It will be the first reading to amend the current open burning ordinance. Such changes to the ordinance would not impact the ban on trash fires or affect recreational fire regulations.

In other city business, the council will:
Hear bid results from the Chesley Industrial Park Roadways;
Have a second reading on vacating a portion of South Water Tower Drive;
and hold a first reading on a declaring surplus property at 117 6th Street.

The council meets at 7 p.m. tonight. You can listen to the meeting on WMIX-AM 940, 96.5 FM & WMIX94.com.
