MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon Police made a handgun arrest in Mt. Vernon on Tuesday evening. 28-year-old Roberto Roman was arrested in the 1400 Block of South 28th for resisting Arrest, Criminal Trespassing, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

These charges were later upgraded by the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s Office into a single charge of being an Armed Habitual Offender.

A caller had reported a trespasser armed with a handgun and immediately called police. When MVPD reported officers discovered Roman inside the residence and observed him run out of view into the rear of the trailer. Officers entered the residence and located Roman hiding inside a bathroom cabinet and also found a firearm and ammunition inside the residence.

Roman is currently in the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond set at $100,000.
