SALEM — A Mt. Vernon man is facing more charges in Marion County after an altercation in the Marion County Jail Aug. 1.

26-year-old Kyle Nix reportedly bit the finger of a correctional officer and was charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer. At the time bond was set at $20,000 and a public defender appointed to the case.

Nix was later found unfit to stand trial in another aggravated battery case, but court reports indicate a psychiatrist believed Nix would be fit within a year.

Nix was turned over to the Department of Human Services for treatment and further evaluation. Nix still remains in Marion County Jail as DHS never took custody.
