JEFFERSON COUNTY — Despite widely a widely shared Facebook post claiming there was an active shooter Thursday on Interstate 64 near the Interstate 57 split, the Illinois State Police says they did not respond to nor receive reports of any active shooter situation or shooting incidents in that area Thursday.

Withers Broadcasting started receiving messages Thursday asking if we had any information on the incident and forwarding screen shots to us of the Facebook posts.

The ISP spokesman we contacted said he had also received screen shots of the social media posts.

The posts claimed at least seven semi-trucks were hit by the gunfire but no one was injured. One comment indicated that one of the semi-drivers had to “give a statement to the state trooper.” ISP says no such statements were taken, as no such incidents were reported and troopers did not respond to any such incidents.
