MT. VERNON — A 28-year-old Mt. Vernon was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after he pleaded guilty to drug induced homicide.

Blake D. Howell was arrested and charged in 2016 with the June 1, 2015, overdose death of Bridget Jimenez at the Beasley Motel in Mt. Vernon.

Robert W. Riddle, Jr., pleaded guilty last week to providing Howell with the heroin and that Howell delivered the drugs to Jimenez.

Riddle faces between four and 15 years in prison. His plea deal resulted in a drug-induced homicide charge against him being dismissed if he testified against Howell and any other defendants charged in the death.

Court reports indicate that Riddle will have a follow up hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a status hearing set for Oct. 10 at 9:30 a.m.

In addition to his 10 year prison sentence, Howell will have to serve 3-years mandatory supervised release once his prison term is completed.
