Talks Break Down, Illinois School Funding Plan In Limbo

(Springfield, IL)  —  No one at the Illinois Capitol seems to know what’s coming next. Lawmakers spent most of the day yesterday negotiating a new plan to pay for Illinois schools, but those talks broke down late in the day and Democrats angrily sent Governor Rauner their original proposal and all but dared him to change it. The governor has vowed to strip extra money for Chicago schools out of the plan. Rauner had said he’d act as soon as he got the plan, but his staff said last night that the governor is ‘reviewing’ the proposal before deciding what to do.
