EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — Democrats aren’t planning on having a rally at this year’s Illinois State Fair, foregoing a decades-long tradition. Instead the state Democratic Party will put the spotlight this year on an annual fundraising brunch. State Democratic chairman Michael Madigan’s spokesman Steve Brown says the party wants the focus to be on the brunch. Brown says that’s a more fitting venue for candidates for office to speak. Democrat’s Day at this year’s fair is Aug. 17.
