Medicaid Payments Flowing

(Chicago, IL) — State payments are starting to flow to doctors and hospitals who treat Medicaid managed care patients, but the backlog of unpaid Medicaid bills is still massive. Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza says her office this week paid 740-million-dollars to managed care organizations, now that a new state budget is in place. The state still owes these providers another three-and-a-half-billion dollars. It’s not clear yet how many of the 12 insurance companies that currently participate in the program will be allowed to continue next year.
