(FLORA, IL) — Illinois State Police report drugs may have played a part in an early morning three-vehicle crash Thursday near Flora that claimed the lives of two drivers whose vehicles burst into flames. According to ISP, just before 6 a.m., the third driver, 65-year-old Walter Pollock, of Sikeston, Mo., was traveling eastbound on U.S Route 50 at the Stanford Street intersection close to the Clay County Hospital. Pollock was driving a 2014 Frieghtliner semi-truck pulling a trailer. At the same time, a 2001 Chrysler minivan being driven by 29-year-old Eric Bosel, of Noble, was traveling westbound at the same location. A 1998 Nissan utility vehicle was also traveling westbound behind Bosel. The driver of the Nissan is not being identified pending the notification of family. ISP reports say the Frieghtliner swerved into the westbound lane, striking Bosel’s minivan, then swerved and struck the Nissan. The force caused all three vehicles to exit the roadway to the north. At that point the minivan and the Nissan both became engulfed in flames, killing both drivers. Pollock, was transported to the Clay County Hospital. He has been cited for improper lane usage, driving under the influence of drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The crash remains under investigation by ISP and the Clay County Coroner’s Office.
