(CENTRALIA, IL) — The National Weather Service in St Louis has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Northeastern Clinton County, Marion County, and Southeastern Fayette County in south central Illinois until 11:15 AM CDT Thursday.  At 5:10 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Radar estimates nearly 3 inches of rain has fallen since 2 AM. Some locations that will experience flooding include, Salem, Carlyle, Centralia, Sandoval, Central City, Odin, Kinmundy, Patoka, Farina, Omega, Fairman, Boulder, Stephen Forbes Station, Shattuc, Tonti, Iuka, Junction City, Keyesport, Alma and Huey. This includes Interstate 57 in Illinois between exits 116 and 127. This also includes Carlyle Lake Recreational Area.  Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying spots.
