(SALEM, IL) — A one-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on Interstate 57 south of Salem early Saturday morning resulted in two people being taken to SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for treatment of injuries. According to Illinois State Police, around 2: 50 a.m., 33-year-old Shawn Stanford, of Woodridge, dozed off and ran into the center median. He then woke up, over corrected and re-entered the roadway. His van then overturned once and came to rest on its wheels on the right shoulder of the interstate. Stanford and his 34-year-old passenger, Charita Lawson, suffered lacerations. They were taken to the hospital for treatment. Three children in the van, ages 2, 3, and 7, were uninjured but were also transported to the hospital. Stanford was cited for improper lane usage and driving while license suspended.
