Police: Scammers Pretend To Be IRS, Demand Money

Palos Park, Ill. (AP)  —  Authorities in the southwest suburban Palos Park are warning the community of an IRS phone scam.  Cops say the fraudsters alter the caller ID to make it look like the IRS is calling and then demand money or say the victim has a refund check.  The caller uses fake names and ID badge numbers to deceive people.  They would then ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.  Anyone who receives a call of this sort is urged to contact the IRS.
