(MT. VERNON, IL) —  A 25 year old Energy man was formally charged Tuesday with two felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence of a controlled substance in addition to a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence in connection to a June 11th vehicular collision on Interstate 57 that killed a Mt. Vernon woman and injured her passenger. The charges allege that Cole Stevens drove while under the influence of cocaine.  Stevens was the driver of a vehicle that travelled through the median of Interstate 57 at milepost 81 at 12:56 p.m. on June 11th and into the southbound lanes of traffic, striking head-on a vehicle driven by 18 year old Emma Caserotti.  Caserotti died as a result of her injuries.  Her passenger, 18 year old Tristen Sharp was also injured in the collision, along with Stevens and his passenger, a 22 year old woman from Carbondale. Stevens was transported to the Jefferson County Justice Center, where he is held on $250,000 bond.
