(WEST FRANKFORT, IL) — A fiery crash between three semi-trucks Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 57 in Franklin County left the interstate closed for several hours and resulted in two drivers being injured. According to Illinois State Police, around 1:25 p.m., 37-year-old Jeffrey P. Anglin, and 58-year-old Terry L. Estes, both of Kennet, Missouri, and 32-year-old Brandon L. Johnson, of Blytheville, Arkansas, were each driving Freightliner semis in the northbound left lane of I-57 when Johnson slowed his truck due to traffic. Anglin crashed into the rear of Johnson’s truck, causing Johnson’s semi to burst into flames. Estes could not stop in time and crashed into Anglin’s semi, causing extensive damage to Johnson’s semi. The crash closed all northbound lanes for about 60 minutes. Once the fire was put out, IDOT reopened the passing lane. However, the right lane was still closed as of 5 p.m. Tuesday. Anglin and Johnson were cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
