Temporary Hold On Cook County Soda Tax Extended

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Cook County soda tax will remain blocked until at least July 21st.  A judge ruled yesterday to extend the temporary restraining order halting the penny-per-ounce tax from being levied.  A hearing will be held on the 21st on a lawsuit filed by the Illinois Retail Merchants Association.  Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle says 11-hundred county employees could be laid off starting next week if the tax isn’t in place by next month.
