There’s still no word on when Sam Hunt’s sophomore album will be finished, but he continues writing new music for the project. As with his debut release, Montevallo, Sam tells us a lot of the new material continues to be inspired by his now-wife, Hannah Lee Fowler.
“Love is inspiring as a musician. I mean, relationships are inspiring, even if . . . I mentioned before that she was a huge inspiration for the first record. That didn’t necessarily mean that every song was a literal reflection of something that happened in our relationship, but from a musical standpoint she just inspired me to pick up the guitar and write and try to do a good job at it when writing these songs, so she absolutely still inspires me in that way, and I continue to write songs that are more of an honest reflection of our relationship and some are, from the storyline, don’t necessarily reflect our relationship but she inspires just the process, I guess, more than anything, and she’s a good kind of ghost co-writer that I can have behind the scenes to bounce ideas off.”
Sam has already topped the charts with the new album’s debut single, “Body Like A Backroad,” which made history for its 20-week streak at Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, which is the longest command for a song by a solo male ever on the nearly 59-year-old chart. The double platinum-certified song is currently the most downloaded country song so far this year.
