(Carbondale, IL)  —  Carbondale is ready to try again with free WI-FI in its downtown. City leaders last week said they hope to have a network up and running before the end of the year.  Carbondale tried free downtown WI-FI once before, back in 2007, but walked away from the project when people complained about slow speeds.  City manager Gary Williams says the new network should be able to handle up to a thousand connections at the same time.
