(SALEM, IL) — A 46-year-old Altamont man was airlifted Friday night to St. Louis University Hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 just north of Salem. According to Illinois State Police, around 9:15 p.m. Friday, Levi W. Boggs was traveling northbound at mile marker 117 when his vehicle left the roadway and entered the median. It then struck a raised culvert and became airborne, overturned, and came to rest on its wheels. First responders arriving on the scene reportedly found Boggs in the backseat floorboard of his vehicle. He was initially taken to Salem Township Hospital but was later airlifted to SLU. He was ticketed for improper lane usage and failure to wear a seatbelt.
