Madigan Sues Over For-Profit College Rules

(Chicago, IL) — Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is one of the 18 Democratic attorneys general who are suing U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos for failing to protect students of for-profit colleges. DeVos has suspended rules developed during the Obama administration that are designed to make schools financially responsible for fraud and to allow students to use the courts to resolve disputes over student loans from fraudulent schools. The rules were finalized after the collapse last year of Corinthian Colleges, the for-profit chain that operated Everest College campuses in the Chicago area.
