(CREAL SPRINGS, IL) — Five people were injured in a two-car crash on Illinois 166 at Old Creal Springs Road in Williamson County Sunday afternoon. Illinois State Police say shortly before 3:40, 66-year-old Donna J. Long of Johnston City was stopped in her car at the intersection of Old Creal Springs Road and Illinois 166 when she failed to yield at the stop intersection and drove into the path of another car driven by 20-year-old Malik D. Melton of Benton. The front of Melton’s car struck the driver’s side of Long’s car causing major damage to both vehicles. Melton was not hurt. He had four passengers in his car when the crash happened. Twenty-year-old Destini J. Briggs of Benton along with a 16-year-old girl suffered minor injuries and were taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion while another 16-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy suffered major injuries and were taken to Deaconess Hospital. Long suffered major injuries and was taken to Deaconess Hospital. It’s not clear at this time if seat belts were used. ISP says charges are pending further investigation.
