(WAMAC, IL) — Firefighters with the Centralia Fire Protection District responded to a call Saturday in the 1300 block of Case Street in Wamac that started in a vacant home and spread to an occupied home next door. The fire caused heavy damage. The fire department reports the fire spread from the vacant home to the Elizabeth Foutch home at 1319 Case Street. The Foutch residence had heavy damage to the roof and north wall. Those in the Foutch home all escaped safely, but fire officials say the home is uninhabitable due to fire damage. The ownership of the vacant home destroyed in the blaze was not immediately known. The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office. The fire call came in just after midnight Sunday morning. Firemen were on the scene for four hours.
