(MT. VERNON, IL) — A 24-year-old Mt. Vernon man who is one of the men accused of shooting to death DeAndray Jackson in January pleaded guilty Tuesday to obstructing justice and was sentenced to more than two years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Curtis Devan Jr. was charged Tuesday in Jefferson County Court with Class 4 felony obstruction of justice. Devan was sentenced to 27 months in prison in exchange for his guilty plea. In his guilty plea to the obstruction charge, Devan admitted in court documents to telling others at the scene of the shooting to hide from the police and not come forward. Additionally, Devan agreed to cooperate with law enforcement and testify at the trials of his co-defendants. If he fulfills his part of the plea agreement, the prosecution will not reinstate the murder charges against him. The other men indicted for murder in Jackson’s shooting are John Wells – who is accused of firing the gun that killed Jackson, Lekedrieon Russell, Dantrez Brown, Jarron Liddell – has also pleaded guilty to obstruction and is awaiting sentencing, Tony Feggins, Deon Frazier and Lamar Williams Jr. Their murder cases are still pending. Four others — Savon Cummings, Desmond Eggleston, Gerrodo Forest and a juvenile — are also charged with obstructing justice in connection with the attempted robbery and murder of Jackson. Wells is accused of firing the gun that killed Jackson during the robbery attempt.. According to court records, Devan was convicted in 2010 of felony aggravated discharge of a firearm.
