Lawsuit Filed To Halt Cook County Soda Tax

(Chicago, IL)  —  A group of retailers is taking legal action to stop the new Cook County tax on soda and sugary drinks before it goes into effect Saturday.  The Illinois Retail Merchants Association filed a lawsuit yesterday seeking a temporary restraining order and a preliminary injunction.  A hearing is scheduled for this morning.  The suit claims the penny-per-ounce tax increase violates the uniformity clause of the state constitution and is too vague.
