Durbin Wants Tougher Federal Gun Law

(Chicago, IL) — Senator Dick Durbin says the federal courts could do more to stop the flow of guns onto the streets of Chicago. Durbin says he’s pushing for tougher laws after hearing from the ATF that most of the guns used in crimes in Chicago are coming from Illinois gunshops through straw purchasers. He says the ATF tells him that the current federal law on straw purchases isn’t tough enough. He says that’s why he’s backing a bi-partisan bill that would put more teeth in the law so that federal prosecutions of Chicago gun sale crimes would be more effective.
