Benton Residents See Confusion By Electric Aggregate Letters

(BENTON, IL) — The City of Benton says it has been made aware by many city residents about a confusing letter Ameren sent out recently. According to the city’s consultant, Reg Ankrom of SIMEC Energy, Ameren sent letters to residents of many of their communities saying that their electric accounts would be returned to Ameren electric supply this month. Ankrom says although Homefield Energy of Collinsville became the city’s new municipal electric aggregation supplier in June, a sizable number of electric aggregation accounts did not get enrolled. Homefield explained that they were converting to a new customer information technology system and failed to pick up a sizable number of our accounts. Those accounts will be automatically re-enrolled in July and residents need not to do anything to stay on municipal electric aggregation. The city says residents always have the right to opt out at any time and at no cost by calling Homefield at 866-694-1262. The municipal electric aggregation rate will remain fixed through June 2019.
