Governor urges lawmakers to end ‘unnecessary’ budget impasse

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Gov. Bruce Rauner is urging lawmakers to end the “unnecessary” budget crisis that’s gripped Illinois for two years. The first-term Republican delivered a brief address from the Old State Capitol Tuesday, the evening before state legislators were to start a special session. He’s urging the Democrat-controlled Legislature to pass a plan introduced by Republicans last week, saying failure to act could cause “permanent damage.” Some Democrats dismissed Rauner’s speech as campaigning.
