(SALEM, IL) — A $50,000 arrest warrant was issued Tuesday in Marion County Court for a 54-year-old Centralia man who did not appear in court on meth and firearms charges. Michael Lawson’s court appointed attorney appeared on his behalf Tuesday on two separate cases in Marion County Court but a defense motion to continue the case was denied. In the first case, filed in January, Lawson is charged with Class 3 felony possession of less than 5-grams of methamphetamine. His arrest in that case came after Centralia police allegedly found meth on Lawson during a traffic stop. He was freed in that case on April 10 after posting $2,500 cash bond. The second case charges Lawson with Class 2 felonies for being a felon in possession of a firearm with a prior conviction and possessing less than 15 grams of meth. His arrest in that case came April 25 after Centralia police executed a search warrant at his North Locust Street home and allegedly discovered ICE – a form of methamphetamine that is 80-percent pure – and a loaded revolver. Central City and Wamac officers, along with Marion County Sheriff’s deputies and Illinois State Police assisted CPD with the execution of the search warrant. According to CPD, reports of drug activity at Lawson’s home along with the arrests of two people leaving his home with drugs led detectives to secure the search warrant. Judge Marc Kelly set bail for Lawson at $75,000 but it was lowered May 9 to $50,000 and he was freed May 10 after posting $5,000 cash bond with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for a June 20. On June 15 the court filed a motion to alter and increase Lawson’s bond and at Tuesday’s hearing Judge Mark Stedelin issued a warrant for his arrest.
