Elvin, “Ed” Hediger, 89, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away Saturday June 17, 2017 at 10:50 A.M. at Green Tree Memory Care. He was born March 11, 1928 in Bond County, Illinois He was the son of Henry and Dana (Harnetiaux) Hediger. Ed graduated High School from Greenville before entering college. He took off after a year and enlisted in the army and was sent to Japan. After returning home, he married Charlotte (Dieukes) Hediger in 1950. He returned and completed college at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He spent the next Thirty Five years as a Baptist Minister.  He and his wife spent their years together until the love of his life passed away in July of 2016. They had four children together named Al Hedigerand wife, Karen of Lemont, Illinois; PamDanner and husband John of Mount Vernon, Illinois; Jan Davis and husband, Paul of Butler, Illinois; and Rich Hedigerand wife, Kandi of Celina, Ohio.  Elvin is preceded in death by his parents; Brothers; one stillborn and Curly; Sister, Muriel Geiger, Mary Ann, and Martin. He missed his wife deeply and longed to see her again.  Ed loved the lord and knew his life here was only for a time. He said that God had blessed him in his life and he was truly grateful.  Private services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Celtic Hospice or to a charity of choice and can be received at Hughey Funeral Home. A large heartfelt thanks would like to be made to Crossroads Hospital and Green tree Memory care.
