(SALEM, IL) — Two men are in the Marion County Jail on multiple drug and burglary-related charges following their arrests early Saturday morning. According to police, 24-year-old Nathan Hale, and 38-year-old Brian Hartnell, both of Centralia, were arrested for alleged criminal damage to property, possession of burglary tools, burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a narcotic instrument, and possession of a controlled substance. Centralia police say they received a report from a home in the 1100 block of North Elm Street that someone was spotted a flashlight moving around in the shed outside. Both Centralia and Central City police responded to the call and reportedly found Hale sitting in a van in the yard and Hartnell on the porch of the home banging on the door. The owner of the shed confirmed to police that the lock had been damaged and several items were missing. Most of those items were reportedly found inside the van. Police report they also found a drug pipe in plain view behind the passenger seat, as well as a container holding baggies, a hypodermic syringe, and a baggie containing a substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine. Both Hale and Hartnell were taken to the Marion County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
