Galesburg railroad festival adds events to boost turnout

GALESBURG, Ill. (AP) — Organizers of an event that celebrates a western Illinois community’s railroad heritage are looking to again boost attendance. Turnout at Railroad Days in Galesburg has doubled in recent years, but organizers say they’ve added programming in hopes of an even bigger crowd. The (Galesburg) Register-Mail reports attendance has got up to 14,000 recently. It used to be around 5,000 to 6,000. Organizers have added new performances, including a show inspired by poet Carl Sandburg’s work.
