IDOC: Nine Menard CC staff members assaulted, injured by inmates

CHESTER, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Corrections is confirming that several staff at Menard Correctional Center in Chester were assaulted by inmates Friday.

According to IDOC spokesperson Nicole Wilson, one officer was sent to an outside hospital for non-life threatening injuries, while nine staff members sought treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is under investigation by IDOC investigators who will forward information to the Randolph County State’s Attorney for possible prosecution.

Wilson could not confirm reports that the incident was an orchestrated event that resulted in staff members being injured when they intervened in the initial incident and cautioned that such claims are premature.
