REND LAKE — The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and United States Army Corps of Engineers hope new fish habitats at Rend Lake will make fishing a little easier.

The agencies will utilize a $10,000 grant from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to place 100 new artificial habitats along the shoreline. More than 700 spider blocks and 150 porcupine balls will be included in the project.

The structures are designed to lure fish to the shoreline and have a life expectancy of 50 years.
