(FAIRFIELD, IL) — A 38-year-old Wayne City man has been sentenced to 12 ½ years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an incident in January near Keenes in which he cut two people with a knife. Paxton D. Bruce pleaded guilty to four counts Class 3 felony aggravated battery, Class 1 felony unlawful vehicular invasion, and misdemeanor aggravated battery. The battery convictions carried concurrent 60 months prison sentences that will run concurrent to the 12 ½ year sentence handed down for the vehicular invasion. In exchange for his guilty plea, three counts Class X solicitation of murder for hire, and six counts Class 3 felony aggravated battery were dismissed. According to reports, Daniel Stevenson, of Belle Rive, refused to give Bruce a ride; he slashed both of them with a knife. Bruce then battered his sister Peggy Rightenower and a passerby — Cole Tatum — who believed the group was having car trouble and stopped to help.
