(SALEM, IL) — A 47-year-old former Centralia man was re-sentenced in Marion County Court Tuesday to 13 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on a 2008 conviction for manufacture of methamphetamine. In 2008, a Marion County jury found Charles Cook guilty of Class X manufacture of between 100 and 400 grams of methamphetamine. He was sentenced at that time to 16 years in prison but had appealed the sentence and filed a petition for post conviction relief. The sentence was reversed on appeal in 2016 and remanded back to Marion County. On Tuesday, Cook agreed to withdraw his post-conviction petition and the state amended his sentence from 16 years to 13 years. He has been in prison on the conviction since June 2009. His earlier projected parole date was July 30, 2020. He must serve 75 percent of his sentence and then 3 years mandatory supervised release.
