MT. VERNON — A Belle Rive man was committed to the Illinois Deparment of Corrections as a sexually dangerous person on Friday and will not be released until it has been determined that he is no longer a danger to the public.

39-year-old Rudy Byler admitted to allegations within the state’s petition to declare him an SDP. Byler was initially arrested in April of 2016 after allegedly committing sex acts with a minor under the age of 10. Byler also had been formally charged last year with three counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two counts of criminal sexual assault of a child.

In October the state filed a petition to declare Byler a sexually dangerous person. Byler also has a prior conviction from 2014 on three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
