(CARLYLE, IL) — A 60-year-old former Collinsville Christian Academy principal turned himself in Monday to the Clinton County Jail to begin serving weekends in a plea deal stemming from a student sex abuse case. Robert Allen Lane, of Troy, Illinois, pleaded guilty last month in Clinton County Court to a misdemeanor charge of battery in exchange for two Class 2 felony charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim between the ages of 13 and 18 being dismissed. Lane was sentenced to 64-days periodic imprisonment and ordered to pay nearly $3,000 in fines. The charges stemmed from a period when Lane was a part-time teacher at Breese Central High School. He was also a part-time teacher at Nashville High School at the same time of the alleged abuse in Clinton County. The crimes were alleged to have taken place in 1996, but charges weren’t filed until similar accusations were made in 2013 against Lane at Collinsville Christian Academy. Information gathered by the Collinsville Police Department assisted in the Clinton County Case, which was then reopened. A Clinton County grand jury indicted him on the charges in 2014. Lane had remained free on $7,500 cash bond since his August 2014 arrest. His bond was applied to his fines and the remainder returned. Felony charges against Lane for aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim between 13 and 18 in Madison County were dismissed in January.
