(SPRINGFIELD, IL) — The Illinois State Police have announced their results for their Memorial Day Weekend enforcement campaign and from the statewide “Click it or Ticket” safety campaign from May 12th to May 30th.  During Memorial Day Weekend, from May 26th to May 29th, 5,585 traffic citations were issued, along 4,597 written warnings.  There were 80 Driving Under the Influence or DUI arrests, 530 seatbelt citations, and officers assisted 576 stranded motorists.  During the Click it or Ticket Safety Campaign from May 12th to the 30th, over 9,500 traffic citations were issued with 165 DUI arrests across the state.  Troopers also wrote up 306 cell phone violations, 1,999 seatbelt citations and 146 child restraint citations.  ISP Director Leo Schmitz mentioned how proud he was of the hard work and effort that was shown by Officers with the Illinois State Police.  He also spoke how there is no telling how many lives were saved by the enforcement efforts by ISP officers.
